I~~~m a Rocker is one of Smokey Joe~~~s latest audience recording releases, and it~~~s their best yet. But first, let~~~s get this out of the way: I was at this show, and the E-Street Band was on F***ING FIRE. The proof is in the details: the violin break in ~~~Worlds Apart,~~~ the raucous back-to-back runs through ~~~Where the Bands Are~~~ and ~~~I~~~m a Rocker,~~~ and a delirious ~~~Rosalita.~~~ And, yes, I did spill a full beer on myself dancing to that last one, but, hey, at least I SMELLED like rock~~~n~~~roll! You will too, when you hear this title. Back to the sound: tinny as to be expected, with the percussion elements suffering the most from the recording. The audience is audible, but nothing too distracting. Bruce~~~s lead guitar work (as well as Soprano Steve and Nils~~~) is way up front, which makes for some interesting listening. The vocals are echoey, but clear. Sometimes the overall volume actually increases. Highlights: ~~~Rosalita~~~ aside, it~~~s gotta be~~~ Worlds Apart.~~~ After that night, it shot into my Bruce Top Ten. If you can find this title, get it! And keep an eye out for the other Philly nights (it was a three night stand). They were all great! | |
